There are a TON of social media accounts out there but the question is ” how do I utilize all of them to build my brand?”. It can be overwhelming, but I will show you my go-to social media marketing strategy for Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
Instagram is GREAT for building your brand. Why? Because Instagram allows you to reach thousands and maybe even millions of people who have a vested interest in you. They have opted in to follow you so you know they want to hear what you have to say. This platform should be used to build a community around your brand with users who are constantly tuned in to see updates on what you have to offer.
Secondly, Instagram is great for building an email list. Having thousands of followers is great because you know they have decided that they want to be apart of your community and want to know what is going on; however, everyone does’t get on Instagram everyday…or every hour…or every minuet. If you really have something to say, you need to build an email list. Your email list is GOLD because these subscribers are the people who are not only followers of your brand (getting periodic updates whenever they are on Insta), but they want more. They don’t want to miss a beat and 9 times out of 10, they want to keep up with what your brand is doing.
Here is how to use Instagram to build your email list:
- Use a tool like Leadpages to create a Lead Magnet.
- A lead magnet is basically free material that you create and give away in exchange for someone’s email (like the one below!) I give away a free checklist to define your tribe and create content that converts. When someone clicks this lead magnet, I know they are interested in creating better content for their blog. This makes making Instagram post and newsletters so much easier because I already have an idea of what my users are looking for.
- Use your LeadMagnet to build your email list by putting the link that LeadPages gives you into your link space on your Instagram page.
- Sounds confusing but here is how it works:
Step 1: Create your lead magnet
Step 2: Publish your leadbox. Once you publish your leadbox, you will have the option to copy and paste the HTML code
You can use a tool like bitly too shorten your link and then copy and paste the link right to your Instagram page. Utilizing your link this way will send people directly to your sign up form and greatly increase your email sign-up’s
Honestly one of my all time favorite tools. Let me tell ya, Pinterest will do WONDERS for your website traffic. Why you ask? Because Pinterest is a search engine.
When you use Instagram, you usually aren’t going there to search for ” happy hours in DC” or ” how to make a DIY dining table”. You are usually going to Instagram to look at some cool pictures, catch up on something QUICKLY and then get back to your day.
However, when we use Pinterest, when we ARE looking for something specific similar to the way we would use Google. Well my friend, Pinterest is the 3rd largest search engine in the world following Google and their counterpart Youtube, so that means people are using this platform to find exactly what they are looking for.
Check out this image from marketing consultant shivarweb who put the term “home decor” in the search field and Pinterest results came up
This should show you that information pinned onto Pinterest is being picked up not only by other Pinterest users , but by people who are searching for information on traditional search engines like Google
Secondly, Instagram is not a tool that we normally use to look at third party material. Third party material would be your website or blog post that a user would find when on your social media page. Most often, we come to Instagram to look at something ON Instagram. However, when you go to a site like Pinterest, you are going there to find third party information.
For example, if I search for happy hours in Baltimore [ as shown below] I am going to get Pins showing me titles of blog posts. If I want to learn more about those topics, I have to click over to the blog post.
In creating your Pinterest account you need to focus on SEO.
- What keywords are people using to find your product?
- What is the mindset of your targeted customer?
- What are they looking for?
- How do you think they will find it?
Get a pen and paper and jot some answers down because this is going to be crucial to users finding your Pins on Pinterest and clicking over to your site.
Until the rise of Twitter mania usurped by Donald Trump this election season, Twitter was actually on the decline. The stock had dropped dramatically and users just weren’t engaged. HOWEVER, Twitter should certainly not be counted out. Twitter is great for sending small and short messages (140 characters) to your followers over the course of the day. Even though Twitter has now done away with the word count, it is always best to keep your message short and sweet.
I use Twitter to consistently promote blog posts throughout the day. By using a tool called Edgar, my blog post are automatically scheduled at select times throughout the day when my users are the most active . Can you talk about consistent advertising? I am always giving new material to my followers and promoting older material my followers may not have seen, so Twitter is a great tool to maintain a consistent interaction with my followers throughout the day
Similar to Instagram, Twitter is an in and out type of social media. People aren’t really going on Twitter to search for something specific (“how to start a vegan diet?”). In order to use this tool effectively, you have to provide short blurbs that will instantly catch your readers attention
This is often the daunting part of Twitter because its like…”ummm what should I say?”. But really, you could just use the title of your post and include a small caption about what they reader will get:
For example: 11 Best Brunches In Seattle [including bottomless drinks under $15]
This is perfect because it has your title, your keyword, and a snippet of what the reader can look forward to. They will either click through to read more, retweet to share with friends, or favorite it to read it for later.
Utilizing Twitter for constant contact with your followers is great and having a great caption to get the readers attention will enhance your ability to continually touch your users throughout the day. People are on Twitter multiple times per day for short bursts of time, therefore you need to be sure to try and catch the attention of as many people are possible.
